Rowtag
The bubbling springs had souded really good to the brindled red stag, and so it was where he decided to bring his newly aquired family for the time being. There was decent grazing for the ladies to supply nutrition to the growing foals inside them, and the relaxing springs for them to rest their weary pregnant bodies, and even for his weary, achy joints as well. His jogging stide, showed that his body didn't quite have the fluid movement that it used to in his younger years. But, he was too stubborn to let that phase him, he pushed through it everyday. He stopped mid stride as he came to the springs, lowering his head for a drink. He lifted his head from the waters, and licked the water from his lips. Amber orbs glanced around him, as the morning sun creeped into the sky. The morning was still cool and conforting, with the birds chirping their morning songs.
He couldnt wait till fall came, and all the foals were born. He was excited about being a father to a new set of foals. He was wanting to check on his ladies, he hoped he could get them all to gather here, and maybe even his son and new mate Isolde, and maybe even the twins. He hoped to speak with them under better circumstances than a few months ago in the pumpkin patch. He filled his lungs with air, and he pointed his maw to the sky, and he bellowed out his call to his family. He hoped everyone would be somewhat sociable. Its not like he asked them to stick completely together like glue. He wanted to make sure everyone knew eachother. After all, there could be a time where he and Lazerus werent around that they would have to rely on eachother's help.
Lazerus
His father certainly didnt have to worry about having that call be for him. He had kept within earshot of his father. He had the same idea as his father had about the shallow springs being a nice little retreat to rest. He glanced back to Isolde, and nickered to her as he heard his father's call. "Come. Lets go see what my father wants." he said to her. He picked up his pace, moving with a nice long jogging stride, returning a call of his own to his father, and threw up a few kicks in the air.
After that meeting with the ghost of his first mate, Hysteria, he felt like a weight had been lifted off of him. The burdening questions had been answered, and he felt more at ease spiritually. He would always hold a special place in his heart for the painted buckskin lady, and she'd never be forgotten by him, nor his children he was certain. But, he now had Isolde at his side, and a new future ahead of them, and he was certainly excited for that.

Spring quickly gave way to summer, and just as suddenly it seemed Absinthe's new life was ushered in, clearing out the darkness and misery of her past. Her belly showed only a slight bulge to it, an unborn child tucked inside, yet it still swayed gently as she followed somewhat behind it's father. Though she held her head high with pride, a new spring in her step, the spotted mare was hesitant. The call Rowtag had sent out was to gather his harem, and soon Absinthe would meet the other ladies the old stallion had taken in. Her social skills still needed work. Glancing around, her ears pricked, the mare paused as a return call was sent quickly out; she had to get her act together soon, because the others were coming, whether she was ready or not.
Picking up the pace somewhat, she soon joined Rowtag at the water's edge, the sweet songs of the birds of summer easing her nerves. Nodding at the stallion, flashing him a small, gentle smile, Absinthe wordlessly acknowledged him before taking a drink herself. Though summer had just begun, the heat was already on full blast. Never before had it affected the mare so strongly, but being pregnant in it? She wondered how most mares did it every year. Sucking in the cool water, her ears still swiveled around, hoping to catch the sounds of approaching hoof beats. Nervous, excited, worried even, Absinthe wondered what the others would think of her.
Rowtag said his herd was a bit small. How bad could it be? She could handle a few mares, though the children could get a bit awkward. Their naivety often threw her off, never mind the fact that just talking to others was a monumental task. Finishing her drink, the gray mare sighed and lifted her head, gazing off as her mind wandered towards the upcoming fall. Everything would have to change by then. She would be ready, she would be prepared, or, at least she hoped she would be. Perhaps some of the other mares would even help ease her into motherhood? Oh, she hoped they liked her.

Rowtag was up in the front, his red coat burning bright in the summer sun. Tigerlily glared at it as she walked along, wondering why in the hell she had let him breed her again. This was her third year in a row of pregnancy and she’d about had it. It was hot and miserable and her body was sweating way too much to be comfortable or attractive.
She’d fallen a bit behind and when she heard his call and the answering call of that bastard son of his Tigerlily gave a little sigh. Finally she would be able to rest.
She caught up after that mare Absinthe, and she pinned her ears at the pregnant female as she passed by. All these mares carrying her lover’s children didn’t make for very happy interactions. It pissed her off that he was getting around while she was carrying his true child inside her.
”I think I should lead from now on,” she said to Rowtag as she stepped slowly into the springs. The warm water washed over her aching fetlocks and she sighed. That mare Absinthe was smiling at Rowatag now, and Tigerlily snorted at her in irritation. ”Where are the others?” she snapped irritably. ”They’re going to get left behind if they can’t keep up.” With that she dropped her crimson lips to the warm water and sucked it in greedily. ”Also, this is warm water. It’s summer, Rowtag.” She shook her head. Sometimes stallions could be so dense.

The black overo bachelor had sufficiently been working on keeping in the shadows of his family's tracks, since fall his conscience had beaten and destroyed him. He knew for a fact his mother's death was his fault and he just couldn't stand being around any of his family knowing he had been the one to ruin it. Seeing the hurt in his father's eyes over the loss of their mother was unbearable, its all he ever seen when he looked upon his dun father anymore. He'd had nightmares since of seeing his mother wither in pain from the rattle snake venom purging her body and the next moment wolves chasing him down into the same pit, waking up with a startle so many times. Ezra just simply could handle being in clear view of his grandfather's herd, so he generally stalked from a distance, a half mile or so away on the worse days to just a few hundred yards away on good days. It seemed even slinking off to the springs to relax his maimed hind end muscles, they still had followed, though he was hidden behind a bend of the trees in a spring hole seperated a bit from the rest.
Ezra grumbled with a shutter hearing his grandfather's call and the response of his father, a few more answered as well. He wasn't sure if he wanted to expose his presence in the least, he was enjoying laying on his side half submerged in the hot water even though the heat of the day was easy enough to break sweat with a slow trot. It always did wonders on his mangled legs no matter the daily temp. A prickle crawled up his neck and instantly the ivory and charcoal brute was glancing around, his amber pools glaring as he searched for his twin sister, if the herd was near he knew she would be too. And dear god had she become the biggest pest since the pumpkin patch, it didn't really help he refused to answer any of her questions. He just wasn't ready, he was just to ashamed.
Sighing he laid his crown down on the edge of the spring, his chin parting the grass blades. Closing his eyes and flicking his ears up so he could hear the conversation on the other side of the trees and bushes of his family and herd.

It was good to be back with the family, and rekindle relationships, even if her brother thought she was the most annoying sibling ever. But hey, that's what big sisters were for. And, she certainly would be till he got onto his feet, or he could actually put her in her place. He had certainly show his tenacity to survive after what he'd been through, but he still had a lot of prove, for him had being the runt. The painted dunskin lady moved with ease, the morning shadows danced over her pelt as she passed by some trees. She snorted softly as the steam from the shallow springs made the air she breathed heavy. Her ears perked forward as she hear her grandfather's call, and his father's shortly after. She let out a call of her own, and she made a sprint in the direction.
She saw her brindled red dun grandfather with a couple of his women, and also saw her father in the distance making his way over with his new mate. She didn't mind that father had some one new, if he was happy, she'd ben happy for him. He couldn't be alone forever, that was how she saw it, even with the way things ended with him and mom. It was an accident, caused by Ezra, that sealed their mother's fate. She had felt guilty for it as well, cause she'd always eggs on Ezra to quit being so much of a momma's boy. But, there was no need to dwell on it so much. She knew that it did for Ezra. She'd heard him at nights when he slept, and be startled awake. She assumed he was replaying the nightmare of their mother's demise in his head. She figured she'd do her best to straighten him out or, ease the emotional hurt in some way but, he was being absolutely stubborn, like he put up a fall to defend his emotions.
She hoped she'd get him out of the rut soon. She didn't like to see him like that. But, as she heard the grumbles of Tigerlily hit her auds, she had some 'bigger fish to fry', at the moment. "You have anything else to complain about?" she retorted, as she came up by the pools a few yards from the Kiger leadmare. "Grandpa was trying to do you a favor, and let you relax your sore achy muscles from your burdens of being in foal. Besides its early morning, the sun hasn't broke the horizon for too long now. It's no one's fault but your own that you're sweating like a stuck hog already. And drinking the warm spring water isn't going to hurt you one bit, especially with it being warmed from the magma chambers that feed Mount Socotra, as well as the enriching volcanic minerals in it." she said. Her voice didn't waiver in her firm sternness to the mare, as well as her orbs never wavering away. She was pretty wise beyond her years to know have the knowledge she had about the earth, and how it worked. She learned a lot being away from Mustang for so long, probably more than she ever would of.
She never remembered Tigerlily being this snappy and gritchy when she was a young filly. Maybe time was getting to the mare, her hormones putting her way off balance, and in bad moods more. But, she wasn't going to have her grandpa get put down like that after being out of the loop of herd life for so many years. It probably embarrassed him some yet, be a bit proud to see in an instance that she was more than capable to stand up for something. She was strong. She had the calling way down deep to be something.

she grew up good like american honey * She nodded her head and trailed behind Lazerus. What was she going to do? Say no? All she wanted to do was curl up in a sunny patch and doze off. Pregnancy was something that was kicking her butt from left to right. She was constantly either tired and/or sore and she honestly feared wha that might mean for her pregnancy down the road. Would it be an easy process or would she struggle and experience pain like she'd never experienced before? It was a scary, sobering thought and one she couldn't quite shake. Even so, she tried her best to be happy for Lazerus's sake. Who was she to fill him with worry? She moved silently, keeping her dark gaze focused on the ground below her. The grass was springy and lush and she was certainly hungry but not enough to make her want to eat just yet. She knew she should've been keeping up with a regular diet and she tried her best to do so but she didn't want to overeat.
She finally came to a stop and lowered her head. Her eyes fluttered closed and she could feel her foal shifting around within her, seemingly determined to make her as uncomfortable as humanly possible. She sighed quietly and pressed her side up against her mate. "Is it normal to feel so... so tired?" She asked softly, turning her head to look up at him. She noted the presence of the others but unless she was spoken to, she wasn't going to say a word. She didn't want to offend anyone. The muscles in her shoulder twitched and she pressed her head against her mate's chest. She cast a final glance around the area before closing her eyes. She didn't doze off but she was close to it and if it weren't for the impending conversation, she probably would've.
