Name: Zuhra
Gender: Mare
Breed: American Quarter Horse
Age: 4 Years
Colour: Lilac Roan (Dark chestnut roan)
Sire: Sergio (Red roan gene)
Dam: Adelaide (Liver chestnut)
Genetics: The lilac roan is categorized in within in the red roan along with strawberry and honey roans according to the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). Roans are created when one of the parents has a roan gene, whether directly or through their grandparents. They can pass this on to their foal, and it can mix with the other parent's genetics, like the red gene, and cause different roans. For instance, the blue roan is the roan gene affecting a black horse.
Markings: Star, front left partial pastern, half pastern hind left and right
Height: 14.3 hh
Personality: Respecting, bold, confident
History: Zuhra was born in a normal herd with siblings and friends. Until the leader, and her father, were challenged. Another slick stallion used this distraction to steal half of the herd before the fighting studs noticed what was going on behind their backs. While chaos ensued, Zuhra's mother was torn from her eight month old daughter and thrown back to her leader. In a hurry to escape with his life, the stallion with a plan took off with his new herd. From that day on, Zuhra was raised by an older mare who was rather strict. Her mentality rubbed off onto Zuhra, giving her the habits and mannerisms she has now.
