The sun barely bordered over the horizon, slowly rising and bringing warm light in it's wake. Summer would soon near it's end, so for now, Xenosa was enjoying the last of it. Her steel blue pools were half-opened, her neck lowered, and his ears flicked back. It was very odd that the mare seemed so comfortable. Typically, she was dancing on her toes, ready to escape any assumption of danger. But, here, in the wee hours of morning, the dove knew that she was safe.
The nocturnal beasts were sleeping away in their dens. The only animals who had rose with the sun were the birds and other small forest creatures that could do no harm to the chestnut tobiano. With a soft snort, the mare began to move forward at a leisurely pace. The world had been strangely quiet the past few weeks, much to Xenosa's pleasure and surprise. As a matter of fact, the last encounter the mare remembered having was with that strange stallion by the waterfall. She hardly even recalled it now.
Lost in her train of thought, the mare suddenly slipped and disappeared beneath rather shallow water. Quickly throwing herself from the lake the mare breathed heavily and stood shakily. Her seekers scanned the surrounding area thoroughly, and her systems swiveled about, listening. When all seemed to fall quiet once more, the dove shook her wet frame and snorted once more. She pricked her ears forward with the sudden realization of where she'd come. Just at the border of a strange territory.
Under normal circumstances, she would have turned away. But instead, she stood still. Watching and waiting. A small voice cried for her to stay, for her to go nearer. She shook her dial furiously. What had gotten into her? A bitter king could lie just beyond the borders, waiting to pounce, to force his claim. She turned to leave, but stopped briefly to glance behind her once more. A grunt of frustration rose from her throat as she turned back towards the lake and began to take a drink before a noise ahead called her to attention. There was someone out there.

There is something different in the air, Nerissa thinks - something that reminds her that summer is drawing to a close. She feels as if she has missed all of it, worrying about Sansa, and the quietness that surrounds her herd, and the tension rising outside the borders. But now it is lonely and silent, and Nerissa finds herself enjoying the sleepiness of everything that surrounds her. The air tastes sweet, and there is a soft breeze rising with the sun that is already beading Nessa's skin with sweat. Around her, the forest wakes slowly. Leaves rustle against the wind; twigs crackle where she steps, sending lizards and rodents scurrying toward the brush; the stream gurgles in the back of her mind, a constant and peaceful reminder. She draws toward the edge of the forest, where the trees spread out and the waterfall rushes, slowly but purposefully. It feels like ages since the last time she could walk alone in the place she loves most.
A small smile curls her lips, one only the jungle can see. From here, the edge of the den opens out in front of her. Miles of busy foliage thin into a winding footpath, marked on each side with wild roses, bent-backed hickory trees and rocks shrouded by moss. The sky is bleeding red and orange and Nerissa's favorite shade of pink from where the sun is crawling past far-away mountains. It highlights everything in gold, including the shadowy figure that she should have noticed earlier. On instinct, the black queen's ocean eyes narrow, and she slinks forward suspiciously, ready for conflict. Instead, it is a tobiano mare who looks absolutely paralyzed. Nerissa forces herself to relax, uncoiling the ropes of muscle in her shoulder, and raises an eyebrow at the girl. Are you looking for something?

How long had she simply stood here? She'd dipped her crown for a drink what seemed to be hours ago. Lost in her wold that was her mind, she still stood, and though her steel seekers still looked over the border of these lands, Xenosa seemed to be far from her body. Her breathing was slow, as if she were sleeping instead of just standing there. How long had it been since the tobiano had actually slept? A day? Two days? Was it three? A soft sigh escaped her and she thought about turning away again.
Her leg lifted to turn her bodice, but a shadow in the distance caught her eye. She looked down at her body, satisfied that she wasn't over the border even just a little. If this figure was a stallion, he could do nothing to her. She was outside of his territory and most likely in a terra that belonged to anyone, yet no one at all. As the being approached, Xenosa could make her out just a little more. A smokey black dove with bright eyes. Xenosa lifted her dial defiantly. Would this mare cause trouble? The temptress felt her body tense starting at her legs and crawling up her bodice like a choke hold. Xenosa was no coward, no, but there was nothing she loved more than the hunt. To run and be hunted down by those who dare try to match her quick pace. Xenosa was incredibly light on her feet, but could deliver such a hit it could stun a brute.
Finally, the equine had made her way closer enough to speak. Her voice carried on the wind between the pair and Xenosa supressed the urge to snort at her. Was Xenosa looking for something? Her ice-blue orbs watched the mare, her frame poised to take flight or fight back. When the mare didn't seem to make a threatening move, Xenosa lowered her dial slightly. "No, I'm merely a traveler." She state, her voice gentle but guarded. She looked over the lands once more. "You have a beautiful home." It sounded more like a question than a statement. For once, Xenosa found herself attempting to make small talk. It had been a while since her last social encounter and something about it felt nice. Even with this dark stranger before her.
