name ◈ rakhir gender ◈ stallion breed ◈ morgan age ◈ four arrived in mustang ◈ summer, year seven coat color ◈ dappled chocolate palomino height ◈ 15.1 hh eye color ◈ hazel
personality ◈ Frankly, I’m very easy-going. I don’t like to complicate things too much and I find joy in simplicity. I’ve seen how the humans make things much harder than they should be and I’ve learned from them that you can’t always find a way to make things work. Sometimes you just have to accept your failure and move on. I try to do that, I honestly try – sometimes, though, the failure just bogs me down and I beat myself up over it. I never forget the wrong I’ve done people and it continues to haunt me; I’m also one of those people that apologizes profusely to such a degree that it’s almost annoying.
I’m not quite a “daredevil,” as you would say, but I certainly don’t have a list of fears that I’d be able to write out. However, I’m not afraid to admit that I am naïve. Undoubtedly I’m not the brightest tool in the shed but that’s life, isn’t it? Live and learn. I also have this crazy dream that someday I’ll be able to fly, but whatever created us didn’t intend for us to fly because they didn’t give us wings, but I’ll suffice by jumping off high tops.
history ◈ I was born and raised in a travelling circus-type troupe; my mother had been born in the group, too, so performing was in my blood. Before I was old enough to really do anything the humans just had me in a stall with my mother, just to show off the new foal. I enjoyed sniffing at the little humans and hearing them squeak and babble with giant grins on their faces. The humans were kind to me and my mother and I liked them – there was even one of them who would sneak me treats and so I was particularly kind to him and didn’t try to playfully nip at him.
The humans wanted to try something new with me, so when I was weaned and sturdier they took me out to some kind of pool and had me swim around. My time in the pool went along swimmingly (haha, get it?) and I played around, blowing bubbles and pawing and getting my trainer wet much to his dismay. He didn’t really care, though, and laughed along with the other humans. Some weeks or months later they got me to walk up a platform and jump off into the pool. It was an attempt to bring back some old performance, they had said.
They were little ramps at first, no more than a few feet above the water’s surface. I’ll admit that I was quite nervous at first, but after the first moment I felt weightlessness I was absolutely addicted. For a creature stuck on all its life, it sure felt wonderful to be able to fall through the air like some wingless bird. It was a sensation I’ve never since been able to correctly duplicate and it saddens me.
My carney days came to a quick close, however, when animal activists got onto my humans. I don’t know what they did wrong but the activists took me and my mother away from them, housing us in a rather clean stall. I didn’t mind it there but, honestly, I missed my humans. These new ones weren’t as engaging but I tried to not hold it against them. They didn’t sneak me any treats but they had some really good food.
Mom was the first of us to go. Some older human adopted her and took her to what I think was a therapeutic barn. That left me alone for a few weeks before one human came and adopted me.
She was kind, albeit strange. The day she got me she led me out to the edge of the town, right by a large stretch of plain, and took the halter off my face. When I stood there contemplating what she was wanting me to do she waved her arms and flailed the lead rope around and I took it that she wanted me to run. Why? I don’t know – I just acted. I ran. When I eventually stopped I looked back, but she wasn’t there anymore. I trotted to where she let me go and it only solidified the fact that she was missing. I didn’t bother to look for her and my curiosity sparked, so I turned my back to the town and scampered away, exploring.
