History: he cannot remember his childhood well, only that it was macabre. he recalls both mother and father dying an unspeakable death, though why or how he does not know, and for a short time his eldest sister, marise, took him under her wing. she taught him everything he knows now, all his values, knowledge, and lodewijk owes his life [and perhaps the last remaining threads of sanity] to her. and then there is the nothingness; a period of darkness, blank, nothing. the next thing he remembers is a voice in his head, and solitude, complete. marise is gone, leaving only a pool of blood and tears. he was three when the gap in his memory occurred and he lost marise; this was when leilan first spoke, and since then has never been gone a day. lodewijk has spent his life on the road, though never once has he settled; he's running from something hiding in the depths of his mind, running because he is terrified, petrified, of what he might remember.
