Sundance is, for her age, an intelligent young mare. She has an almost insatiable curiousity and a natural love for adventure that seem to get her into trouble quite often, and a distinct lack of cautiousness that aids this. She is not wise by any standards as she is far too young to have any real amount of experience in life; but she is not stupid. Sundance is well aware that danger can lurk around every corner, and her natural instincts certainly aid this. These natural instincts are also what keep her – or more likely get her – out of trouble. Having speed and stamina from the Thoroughbred and Arab parts of her ancestry, Sundance is able to race for a decent distance before she will inevitably need to rest.
Of course, being young; Sundance still retains her youngster playfulness. There is nothing she loves more than a good roll in the grass or on a sandy patch of ground, a game of tag with a few friends or a good splash around in a shallow stream. Alongside her adventurous and curious nature; Sundance also possesses a little bit of a ‘hot head’. If she is riled by anything, she absolutely will become sassy, and can occasionally forget her ‘place’ in the herd. Essentially, this is one young mare who is not afraid to backchat stallions and mares alike; especially strangers or those with a mutual dislike. However with this said, Sundance will absolutely not backchat her lead stallion/mare (should she find one). No, she likes her coat without scars, thank you very much.
History:
Sundance has only been on this earth for a mere 3 years compared to some of the other horses around, and as such she does not possess a wealth of experience in life. Sure, she listened to the teachings of her mother, and yes her natural instincts and 3 years so far have provided her with a knowledge of the world; but compared to the 9 year olds? No.
Her mother, a chestnut mare in a palomino stallion's herd, was situated around the middle of the pecking order. She deferred to those of a higher status, but did not suffer fools gladly; and did not allow herself to be bullied without giving a dang good kick back. Even as a foal, Sundance had a great curiousity about the world but she never strayed far from the herd, often remaining within sight of her mother once she became big enough to wander a bit further. She learned how to bend her legs and reach down to nibble the grass, how to break through thin ice to find drinkable water...and she played more often than not with her siblings. Her favourite game was tag, it always has been, and the foals would spend days galloping around the herd, ducking in and out of the mares, squealing with joy and tagging each other with their muzzles. At night, she would lay by her mother's side and sleep, and she would dream. When she turned 2, Sundance left her mother and the herd to roam with a youngster band.; which she has remained with for just over a year now. As the band grew smaller, with the colts roaming further and leaving to form bachelor herds or to start their own, Sundance went her own path. It was but a days gallop before she arrived in this new land, determined to settle here and explore what and while she could.
