Personality: Phaedra is mouthy, she was never really taught to hold her tongue and so she always gives you her honest opinion whether it is desired or not. She is slightly morbid but mostly out of fancy, the life she led was fairly carefree before her sister passed away and after Pheos’ death she grew a fancy for things dark and scary. Phaedra aspires to have a great love and a great story, like those that she was told about when she was young. She’s still fairly malleable at this point in her life; she can be soft and coy at one moment and a firecracker the next. She likes to think herself profound and full of wisdom but truly she has a lot to learn in this life.
History: Phaedra was the second daughter of Niadi and Endymion, her sister Pheonyx was nearly three when she was born and her father had already passed away not long after she was conceived. Niadi had a hard labor and died only two short months after Phaedra was born and Phae doesn’t remember her at all but feels like she knows her well from the stories her sister told. Pheonyx gave up her youth and childhood to care for Phaedra who was a rough child to raise. She always questioned everything and never did what she was told, always running off to play with the foals that her sister had warned her were bad news. At the age of two Phaedra fell in with the “tough” crowd and developed the tendency to be a bully which still rears its ugly head sometimes. She has trouble feeling empathy for someone and can gain amusement by exploiting weaknesses that she sees, but at the same time once she comes to know you she loves you so well that she almost feels whatever you are. Shortly before she was 3 she left her sister, choosing to live with her longtime friend Maverick and his father in their herd even though the horses there were cold and callous whereas her sister was maternal and warm. Pheonyx disagreed with this decision, knowing that Phaedra and Maverick made a horrible pair – the two had been bickering since they were foals and she did not trust the way that Maverick had been raised. Phaedra left anyways, against her sisters please, Phaedra did it out of her desire for independence but more than that the guilt she felt for stealing Pheos’ youth, even though Pheonyx was still young in years she was old in her heart and Phae wanted to give her a chance. The two had a cordial relationship after that and their visits grew further and further apart. When she was three she paired with Maverick, believing that she would be his great love and they would live out a fairytale. She became pregnant and Maverick slowly looked elsewhere. He was ambitious and aspired to have a great herd and it was obvious to everyone but Phaedra that he valued her but she could never be the only one. She did not truly love him, she knew that they were well-bonded and just wanted to be important in the only way she knew she could be at the time. When he brought home a mare that he felt he had the potential to care for romantically Phaedras eyes were suddenly opened and she grew angry, and once he explained to her the way he felt and pointed out that all her plans had been devised from assumptions she left angrily.
She went back to her sister and they spent a few short months planning for Phaedras child to be born with excitement. During at early winter storm the pair traveled in search of better shelter than what they had and were attacked by hungry wolves. Pheonyx moved in to protect her sister and although Phaedra wanted to fight her sister insisted that she run and Phaedra did. She waited for Pheonyx in the orchard where they had always gone… and waited… and no one ever came. Days later Phaedra went back to the place of the attack and found traces of dried blood and bones – all that was left of her sister. Shocked and alone she went back to Maverick, humbled and asking for a place as his friend again. Phaedra had a stillborn son that spring. She stayed with Maverick for the next year, restless and feeling as if she were stuck in a life that she didn’t want. And so with her wandering soul prodding at her she bickered with him one day, over something small, and the argument turned into an explosion. They had always been a fiery pair and knowing each other so intimately they used the worst they knew against one another and soon words turned to blows. Phaedras cheekbone was crushed and his nose was shattered. She slept that night fitfully, their fight having been broken up by other members of the herd, and thought back to how the relationship had grown more and more unstable over the years and how he could never give her what she wanted, he would never be what she wanted him to be and although she loved him it was not in the way of the stories. That morning she rose and said goodbye, giving no reason and asked for none, and since then she has been traveling.
